Commonly Misspelt Words


The spelling of some English words might be trickier than others. 


They are also commonly tested in the Editing section of Paper 2 of the PSLE English paper.  

Here is a list of some of the words.

Read the sentences below to find out how these words are used.
1.      Reaching the mountain peak was a great achievement for the hikers.
2.      Have you found accommodation yet?
3.      The art collector recently acquired a very valuable painting.
4.      Please avoid going too near the wild animals as they could become very aggressive.
5.      She was apparently very tired as she could not stop yawning.
6.      The famous science fiction writer made a public appearance at the bookstore last weekend.
7.      The new student felt awkward among the rest of her classmates.
8.      Your attire is too casual for this dinner.
9.      The robber had a weapon concealed in his bag.
10.   Jasmine enjoyed buying sweets and chocolates from the confectionery.
11.   The guests wrote congratulatory messages for the wedding couple in the guest book.
12.   The accident victim was still conscious of what was happening around him even though he was in great pain.
13.   You have the flu and it is contagious so please avoid sharing food with others.
14.   The controversial topic was hotly debated in parliament.

Here are some tips on how to learn the spelling of these words.
1. Read them.
2. Write them.
3. Spell them.
4. Use flash cards to help you.

5. Don’t learn all the words at once. Learn two or three words each time and come back again to learn more words.
6. Review the words you have learnt.
