Here are more important phrases that are often used in the English language. Read the sentences to find out how they are used. 

Phrases with ‘under’

1. Under extreme circumstances, the government will allow the illegal immigrants to continue staying in the country. 

2. A young boy was under arrest for shoplifting. 

3. Your ideas will be placed under consideration and we will get back to you in a week. 

4. The train station is still under construction and will only be ready at the end of the year. 

5. Under the cover of darkness, the smugglers crept inland. 

6. I place the original documents signed by the generals during World War Two under lock and key. 

7. The soldiers were under orders to raid the villagers' house. 

8. The lift is under repair so you will have to take the stairs. 

9. A group of men are under suspicion of selling illegal cigarettes. 

10. This ship is under the command of veteran Captain Xavier. 

11. I was under the impression that the cafe only sold sandwiches so i was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was pasta and pizza dishes as well. 

12. Driving under the influence of alcohol is dangerous. 

13. If you are under treatment for your illness, you must adhere to a strict diet. 

Words with ‘in’

9. She decided to step down as the chairman of the council in favour of a member who has more experience than her. 

10. The children were in high spirits on the day of the sports meet.
